OSRAM is one of the two leading light manufacturers in the world.
The company’s portfolio covers the entire value chain from components – including lamps, electronic control gear and opto semiconductors such as light-emitting diodes (LED) – as well as luminaires, light management systems and lighting solutions.
The company, which has an international orientation, had more than 35,000 employees worldwide at the end of the fiscal year 2013 and generated a revenue of almost 5.3 billion Euros in that year.

With LED-based products making up a share of 29 percent of the total turnover, the company is setting significant trends with regard to technological changes in the lighting market.

Light for every environment

OSRAM is also one of the market leaders in the field of electronic control gear (ECG) for lamps. Business with optical semiconductors is growing rapidly and has taken on major strategic importance.
The special display-optic lamp sector is also characterised by a high rate of innovation.
Over 100 years of OSRAM
The OSRAM brand name was registered in 1906 and is one of the oldest trade names still recognised throughout the world.On July 1, 1919 AEG, Siemens & Halske AG and Deutsche Gasglühlicht AG (Auer Gesellschaft) merged their light bulb production activities.
Today, Siemens AG remains minority a shareholder in OSRAM. The company was listed on the stock exchanges in Frankfurt and Munich on July 8, 2013. (ISIN: DE000LED4000; WKN: LED 400; Trading symbol: OSR))
The OSRAM Environmental Portfolio
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing mankind today. Anthropogenic CO2 emissions, such as those resulting from using fossil fuels to produce electricity, have been clearly identified as one of the factors responsible for accelerated global warming. Hence, their reduction is of utmost importance. OSRAM is responding to this global challenge with its Environmental Portfolio (EP).
The OSRAM Environmental Portfolio
The portfolio is mainly comprised of products, systems, solutions and services with outstanding energy efficiency, or services implementing their use.
In fiscal year 2012, more than 70 percent of all OSRAM sales came from products that are part of the Environmental Portfolio. Thus, OSRAM is aligning its business activities with climate protection and helping its customers save on energy costs – a perfect example of sustainability addressing the triple bottom line.
Environmental Portfolio Report and Guideline
OSRAM reports on its Environmental Portfolio on an annual basis in accordance with the internal regulations defined in the OSRAM Environmental Portfolio Corporate Guideline.
An independent accounting firm was commissioned to audit the reported results for the OSRAM Environmental Portfolio for fiscal years 2012, 2011 and 2010 to obtain a so called “reasonable assurance”. For more details please see the report including the auditor´s report.
